In the weeks since all of Italy was ordered indoors – no soccer games, no visiting cafes or bars, no church services – the country made slow progress toward containing its severe coronavirus outbreak. There are signs of hope: Even as the number of cases climbs, the rate of infection has started to slow under the nationwide lockdown.
